Bill Rinaldi and the Hazleton One Community Center
Investing in youth, education, and opportunity in Hazleton, Pennsylvania. In 2016, a transformative community initiative took shape at the Hazleton One Community Center with plans for a new baseball-themed playground designed to serve children and families throughout the region. The project, part of the broader Hazleton Integration Project, brought together local leaders, volunteers, and community partners with a shared mission: expand access to safe recreation and educational resources.Stepping Up for the Community
Bill Rinaldi played an instrumental role in helping bring the playground project to life. As a committed community advocate and local businessman, he donated $250,000 to fund the construction of the new playground, ensuring children throughout Hazleton would have a safe place to play and learn.
The groundbreaking event was marked by a heartfelt visit from Chicago Cubs Manager and Hazleton native Joe Maddon, who helped launch the project in his hometown. Together with Rinaldi and other community partners, the effort demonstrated the power of collaboration in bringing transformative amenities to neighborhoods that need them most.
More Than a Playground
Bill’s support went beyond the playground itself. In conversations with center leadership, he learned that the facility’s computers were outdated and often breaking down. Without hesitation, he arranged for 20 new Apple computers to be delivered to the center, and even helped refresh the space with new paint and carpeting to make it welcoming for students and families alike.
While Rinaldi humbly described his role as “minor” compared with the commitment of program volunteers and founders, community leaders emphasized that his contributions helped solve critical problems and advanced the mission of the Hazleton Integration Project.
Investing in People and Possibility
The Hazleton One Community Center serves between 1,200 and 2,000 visitors per week and focuses on educational, cultural, and athletic opportunities for economically disadvantaged children. Bill’s support helped expand the center’s capacity to serve its mission and reinforced a shared belief among partners: investing in children and families strengthens entire communities.
